The exact labels and locations can differ slightly between Google Pixel, Samsung Galaxy, and other Android devices, but the main starting point is usually Settings > Accessibility.

Start with the Accessibility settings hub

The Accessibility section groups tools by the type of support they provide. On many current devices, categories include vision, hearing, interaction and dexterity, captions, and general controls. Some phones also place a shortcut button on the screen or in the navigation area, making a chosen feature available without reopening Settings.

Before turning on several options at once, identify the task that is difficult. Is it reading small text, understanding video speech, reaching screen controls, or operating the phone without using hands? Magnification and display readability

These settings address different needs: increasing font size improves text layout, while magnification enlarges everything in a chosen area.

Live Caption can generate captions for speech playing on the device, such as videos, podcasts, and audio messages. For calls, Android may offer related captioning options where supported, but users should check local availability and privacy information before relying on them.

Sound Notifications can alert users to selected household sounds, such as a doorbell, smoke alarm, baby sounds, or a running appliance. These alerts are intended as an additional aid, not a replacement for properly maintained safety equipment. Android can also support compatible hearing aids and Bluetooth audio devices; pairing instructions depend on the hearing aid model and phone manufacturer.

Mobility and touch alternatives

Android includes several ways to reduce reliance on precise touch gestures. Voice Access lets users control many on-screen actions with spoken commands. It can open apps, scroll, tap labeled controls, enter text, and navigate interfaces. Reliable use generally requires a quiet environment, clear speech recognition, and time to learn the available commands.

Switch Access supports external switches, a keyboard, or other input methods for scanning and selecting screen items. It can be configured for one-switch or two-switch scanning and may take more setup than other options. Accessibility Menu places common actions, such as volume controls, notifications, screenshots, and lock screen access, in a larger on-screen menu. Review permissions carefully, particularly for tools that read screen content, interact with other apps, or use the microphone.

When setting up a device for another person, do not assume the same solution will remain appropriate.
